Project Overview

Mzansi Lounge was an ambitious structural upgrade project aimed at transforming an existing single-storey building into a modern double-storey entertainment venue. The client envisioned expanding vertically to create additional space for lounge and hospitality activities while maintaining the strength and safety of the existing foundation.

Client Requirement

The client required an engineering solution that would make it possible to:

• Strengthen the existing structure to carry an additional floor.

• Design and integrate a new first-floor system.

• Provide a durable and efficient roof-slab design suited for long-term use and high occupancy.

Solutions Provided

Concrete Jacketing for Foundations Design: Reinforced the existing foundations using concrete jacketing to increase load-bearing capacity and ensure structural safety for vertical extension.

First Floor Design: Developed a high-strength, lightweight first-floor system with careful load transfer to the newly jacketed foundations.

Roof Slabs Design: Engineered robust reinforced-concrete roof slabs designed to meet durability, waterproofing, and aesthetic requirements.

Final Outcome

The result was a fully functional double-story lounge with improved load distribution, increased usable area, and a strong modern aesthetic.
